Cannock based firm benefit from funded training

Goodfish are an injection moulding and toolmaking company based in Cannock. Goodfish was established 7 years ago and is a growing business. The company were interested in accessing training through Skills Support for the Workforce in order to empower their employees and prepare them for further growth. They identified the need to upskill staff in IT skills, management and leadership and customer service.

Goodfish have now enrolled 20 of their team on over a dozen different courses including an ILM management course, customer service, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint through Skills Support for the Workforce. Skills Support for the Workforce aims to upskill employees within small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Performance Through People deliver the programme, which is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency, on behalf of Serco in Staffordshire.

There have been positive comments from staff who have completed their training. One person said they felt it had made them more confident in their job role, others said that it was interesting and they liked that they could ask for training they felt would help them in their role.

Some staff have already taken on additional responsibilities, such as a greater responsibility for data input. One participant has been promoted to Quality Manager and taken on a number of extra responsibilities. The company have found the risk assessment training particularly beneficial – as a result of this training they have had discussions about how to improve their own forms and staff are now more proactive about risk assessment and identifying potential hazards.
