Sharon Sutton (pictured with her dog, Geni) attended last week’s ceremony after completing a Business Administration apprenticeship while working for RNIB. Sharon commented that her apprenticeship had required a lot of hard work and commitment, but she was glad to have done it and felt that it had really helped her to develop her skills and build her confidence. She praised her tutor, Julie Walsh and said she wished that she’d had a teacher like her when she was at school. As well as administration duties and working in the RNIB resource centre, Sharon’s role now involves delivering training and presentations about sight loss to employers and other groups, something she hopes to be doing more of going forward. Sharon believes apprenticeship are a great way for people who are volunteering or who have been out of work to gain confidence and be supported back in to employment, and she now uses her role to promote education to other people whenever she can.
