This qualification provides individuals with the skills required for an administrative or clerical role, and instils an understanding of the key responsibilities required in the role. It is designed to allow learners to demonstrate a practiced set of skills when carrying out business administrative operations including the introduction of developing and managing administrative systems, processes and functions. It is intended for those who are employed in, or aspiring to, a supervisory or office management role.

Learners and employers can choose from a variety of units available from the optional groups to make up the remaining credits for the qualification.
The qualification is delivered through a combination of training, guidance, support, self-study and activities in the workplace. On and off job training either through group sessions or on a one-to-one basis. The NVQ will be assessed using varied methods depending on learning style. Technical knowledge and functionality will be assessed through internal and external testing. A portfolio of evidence is required.
While there are no formal entry requirements, it is likely that people undertaking this qualification will have some prior experience in a business administration environment to allow them to complete it.
With additional training and support learners may have the opportunity to progress in their careers to a wide range of managerial roles within business. Progression to Higher Apprenticeships at level 4 and above or Higher Education such as Foundation Degrees and undergraduate programmes.
