The aim of this qualification is to contribute to the skills, knowledge and overall performance of management and leadership. Designed to allow learners to demonstrate a broad set of skills when carrying out a range of team leading tasks, including leading team and individual performance. Learners will develop an understanding of the principles that underpin leading a team including leadership styles, team dynamics, managing work of teams and communication techniques.

Learners and employers can choose from a variety of units available from the optional groups to make up the remaining credits for the qualification.
The qualification is delivered through a combination of training, guidance, support, self-study and activities in the workplace. On and off job training either through group sessions or on a one-to-one basis. The NVQ will be assessed using varied methods depending on learning style. Technical knowledge and functionality will be assessed through internal and external testing. A portfolio of evidence is required.
The qualification is suitable for those who are entering a management role or wish to gain a qualification that formally recognises their skills, or those who lead a team and are responsible for its performance.
With additional training and support learners may have the opportunity to progress in their careers to roles such as first line managers, section managers, assistant or trainee managers or senior supervisors. They may wish to undertake higher level qualifications in Management, FE or other business related qualifications.
