Research has shown that a large number of new staff will be needed in the IT and Telecoms sector over the next few years. This qualification ensures they have the skills and knowledge required for the job. By choosing appropriate units the qualification can be suitable for a range of areas including software and web development, technical support and IT project management.
People who complete this qualification will be working in roles such as Support Technician, Website Administrator and Helpdesk Professional.

In addition to mandatory units, learners and employers can choose from a variety of units available from the optional groups to make up the remaining credits for the qualification.
The qualification is delivered through a combination of training, guidance, support, self-study and activities in the workplace. On and off job training either through group sessions or on a one-to-one basis. The Diploma will be assessed using varied methods depending on learning style. Technical knowledge and functionality will be assessed through internal and external testing. A portfolio of evidence is required.
Although there are no formal entry requirements many of the roles will require qualities such as being a fast learner, finding solutions to problems, good attention to detail and being open to change.
With additional training and support learners may have the opportunity to progress in their careers to a more senior role or move to higher level qualifications, including the Advanced Apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Specialists.
