Asbestos Awareness

Asbestos is a natural fibre that was widely used for fire protection and insulation in the UK before it was banned in 1999. Anyone who may disturb asbestos while at work, such as electricians, plumbers and plasterers, is legally required to have Asbestos Awareness Training.

Course objectives

The course has been designed to inform individuals of the ways in which they may be exposed to asbestos as well as what action to take should this occur. It aims to provide all attendees with the important information pertaining to asbestos, its effect and how to avoid exposure ensuring a healthy and safe workforce.

Course outline

  • The properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of developing lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke
  • The types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and asbestos materials in buildings and plant
  • The general procedures to deal with an emergency, e.g. an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace
  • How to avoid the risk of exposure to asbestos
