As the 2017 PTP Achievement Awards approach, we are taking a look back at how some of last year’s finalists have progressed.
First is Chad Southam from Staffordshire. Chad was shortlisted in the Intermediate Apprenticeship category while completing an apprenticeship in cleaning and support services.
“My dad started his business, WS Cleaning Solutions, a few years ago and my long-term aim is to take over from him one day,” said Chad. “I went to school in Lichfield and while I had a lot of friends there, studying just wasn’t for me. I did a year in the sixth form to give it a go, but I then decided to start an apprenticeship. I like being a window cleaner because you are outdoors and travelling to different areas, I couldn’t be stuck in the same place every day.”
The apprenticeship lasted one year and Chad said he was able to apply a lot of what he did on the course to his job. “It was important to do the course for my job, especially the health and safety side of it,” he said. “You learn about how to take care when going up ladders, but also things that I’d never thought about like the tidying up after yourself and making sure there are no trip hazards.
“I enjoyed doing the course through PTP and I learnt a lot and received a lot of support from my training adviser. I enjoy working with my dad and thanks to the course I can help him out more, and it gave me the qualifications I need to take over the business from him one day.”
