Advanced Apprenticeship in IT Application Specialist

Factors such as rapid developments in technology, the need for increased security and the increased use of mobile devices mean that there will be a growing number of job roles where using IT is the main activity. At the same time, employers report a skills gap in their current staff in this area. This framework gives apprentices the skills and knowledge to work effectively and efficiently with IT systems, communication and productivity tools and software applications.

People who complete this apprenticeship will be working in roles such as IT Application Helpline Support, Website Manager or IT Supervisor.

Mandatory Units

  • Understanding the potential of IT
  • Developing Personal and Team Effectiveness Using IT
  • Improving Productivity Using IT

Learners and employers can choose from a variety of units available from the optional groups to make up the remaining credits for the qualification.

The course is delivered through a combination of training, guidance, support, self-study and activities in the workplace. On and off job training either through group sessions or on a one-to-one basis. The Diploma will be assessed using varied methods depending on learning style. Technical knowledge and functionality will be assessed through internal and external testing. A portfolio of evidence is required.



Entry requirements

Course Progression

IT is a growing area with lots of different career options. Following an intermediate and advanced apprenticeship learners may look to undertake a higher apprenticeship or enter higher education, for example a foundation degree.

Some people will choose to work for a specialist IT company, while others may progress through the IT department of a business in a different sector.
